We’re in Dallas-Ft. Worth for Thanksgiving, which always means an evening or two spent at DFW for some plane spotting. The highlight today, and one for my life list, was this absolutely stunning one-of-a-kind Icelanda

that I photographed as it was departing on a flight to Reykjavik. This is a pretty Q&D edit, and I’ll have a better edit and some other interesting spots to post after I get home.

I get it. Aurora borealis. Looks sharp!

Apparently it has LEDs in the cabin that mimic the aurorae.

Hekla is their big volcano (you know, the one that shut down Western European airspace for weeks several years ago). I’ve flown them once from BWI-KEF around 2000 when I was finishing college.
Iceland is still one of the most expensive and overrated countries in the world, but still a cool place for a stop. I would totally fly them to Europe for the free stopover in Iceland again (up to 3 days, IIRC). Not a lot of carriers offer that without huge surcharges and rebookings.
I believe their entire fleet has always been 757. Sort of like Southwest, but transatlantic.
This paint job is off the charts.

Nifty. Now I need to see video.
You already provided a link! I thought it would be outside, not in, but that’s pretty neat anyway!

Most beautiful a/c I’ve seen, maybe ever. And the late afternoon light was simply glorious.

Neat.
Anyone ever fly Iceland air? I keep seeing cheap flights, but don’t want a spirit transatlantic flight.

Didn’t think it could fly.

That’s the Heckle Aurora.

I flew four segments with them in 2012. Definitely not Spirit. The only real “value airline” move they made was not having free meals on the flights (which weren’t super long or anything ), and the check-in agent was pretty apologetic about it. Three of the four planes I flew on had nice comfortable modern interiors, with good in seat entertainment. The fourth was a 757 that had not been through the modernization inside (old uncomfortable interior) and out (no wingtips), but for the relatively short flight to London, I could deal with it.
The airport in Iceland is designed for transfers, so everything ran very smoothly for that.
